The main body of the tower was built in the fifteenth century. It is a typical L plan Scots keep, with the doorway one floor up, reached by a removable wooden stair. The upper reaches were added to the building in the seventeenth century. It is now roofless, and the upper masonry of the west elevation had been eroded by the prevailing winds.

I have now done two phases of stabilization work at Preston Tower. Having personally spent nearly a year on site and packed away my share of five tonnes of lime mortar into the walls I feel attatched to the building.
